canvasrebel interview: Meet Luke Meschke
Meet Luke Meschke, Owner of Guardian Cleaning and Maintenace of Elk River, Minnesota.
We were lucky to catch up with Luke recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Luke, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
One of the biggest ways we do things differently from the industry standard is how we approach roof maintenance and preservation. In this industry, the default mindset is often to push full replacements, even when a roof still has years of life left. At Guardian Cleaning and Maintenance, we take a different approach. Instead of automatically recommending a costly replacement, we focus on repairing, rejuvenating, and extending the life of existing roofs with GoNano products.
Most homeowners are told that once their roof starts showing signs of aging, their only option is to tear it off and install a new one. While there are definitely cases where a roof is too far gone, the reality is that many roofs are still structurally sound but just need some extra care to last longer. That is where GoNano comes in. The Shingle Saver and Revive products we use penetrate and restore aging shingles, improving flexibility and water resistance. This process can add years to a roof’s life, saving homeowners thousands of dollars in the process.
Beyond just the cost savings, this approach also reduces unnecessary waste. Roof replacements generate massive amounts of material that end up in landfills. By helping homeowners get more life out of their existing roofs, we are keeping that waste to a minimum while providing a smarter, more sustainable option.
At the end of the day, we want to educate homeowners on all their options, not just sell them on the most expensive solution. Our goal is to provide real value and help people get the most out of what they already have. That is a big shift from the traditional “rip and replace” mindset, and it is something we are proud to offer.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Luke Meschke, the owner of Guardian Cleaning and Maintenance, LLC, and my background is in construction and home services. I have spent years working in the industry, particularly in roofing and exterior maintenance, which gave me a front-row seat to how things are typically done. What I noticed over time was that the standard approach often pushed homeowners toward full roof replacements, even when they were not entirely necessary. That never sat right with me. I knew there had to be a better way to help homeowners protect their investment without always resorting to the most expensive solution.
That is what led me to start Guardian Cleaning and Maintenance. Our focus is on preserving, protecting, and extending the life of roofs and exterior surfaces instead of replacing them before it is truly needed. We do that through GoNano’s innovative line of products, which allow us to restore and rejuvenate aging shingles, concrete, and wood surfaces. Instead of tearing off a roof that still has life left in it, we use GoNano Shingle Saver and Revive to restore flexibility and durability. For driveways and patios, GoNano Concrete Saver helps protect against cracking and wear. We also provide soft washing, gutter cleaning, and exterior maintenance services to keep homes in top shape.
The biggest problem we solve for homeowners is giving them options that most companies will not. Too often, people are told they need a full replacement because that is the industry standard, but they are never given an alternative. What sets us apart is that we educate our customers and help them understand all their choices so they can make the best decision for their home. If a roof truly needs to be replaced, we will tell them that, but if there is an opportunity to extend its life, we believe they should know about that too.
What I am most proud of is the trust we have built with our customers. We are not in this business to upsell unnecessary work. We are here to provide real value and help homeowners protect what they have. Seeing the relief on a homeowner’s face when they realize they do not need to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a new roof is what keeps me going.
For anyone considering working with us, the main thing I want them to know is that we are here to help, not sell. Our approach is about practical solutions, transparency, and long-term savings. If there is a way to restore and extend the life of your roof or exterior surfaces, we will find it. If you are looking for a company that puts your best interests first, Guardian Cleaning and Maintenance is the team you can trust.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
For us, communication is everything. We take a consultative approach when working with clients, which means we are not just there to sell a service—we are there to educate and help them make the best decision for their home. From the very first conversation, our goal is to be a resource, not a pushy salesperson.
We stay in touch with clients through personalized follow-ups, clear expectations, and ongoing support. Whether it is a simple check-in after a project, sending helpful maintenance tips, or answering any questions down the road, we want them to know they can always reach out. People appreciate honesty and transparency, so we focus on giving them all the information they need without pressure or gimmicks.
That trust is what fosters brand loyalty. When clients see that we genuinely care about their home and not just the sale, they are more likely to refer us to friends, leave positive reviews, and call us again when they need something in the future. At the end of the day, building strong relationships is what keeps our business growing.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
One book that has really stuck with me is Atomic Habits by James Clear. It helped shape how I approach both business and personal growth because it is not about chasing overnight success—it is about getting 1% better every day. That mindset has been huge for me.
As a business owner, it is easy to get caught up in the big picture and feel like you have to make massive leaps to see progress. But the reality is that small, consistent improvements stack up over time, and that is what leads to real success. Whether it is refining our processes, improving how we communicate with clients, or simply making better use of time, focusing on those small changes every day makes a huge difference in the long run.
This book really drove home the idea that success is not about one big breakthrough—it is about building the right systems and habits that allow you to keep moving forward. That lesson has played a big role in how I run my business and stay motivated, even when things feel slow.
